Louvre tickets: How much they cost and how to buy them

The Louvre is the largest art museum in the world. The former royal residence is now not only proud of its architecture, but also its 300,000-piece collection, including its crown jewels: the famous Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Liberty leading the people and other masterpieces. How to buy Louvre tickets online

The Louvre only sell tickets with the date and time of the visit. Not surprisingly, the tickets are often sold out two weeks in advance. If you want to be sure to visit the museum, book tickets in advance online. 

You can buy tickets on the official museum site or with partnering companies. The price will be the same either way. One of the most reliable companies can be found by using the link. Or you can simply choose a date on the calendar below. When you make your purchase, you’ll get an e-ticket and instructions from the official tourist office in Paris.

Children under 18 can get into the museum for free. Entrance is also free for students up to 26 years old that live in the EU. But if you’re from a different country, just bring your international student card, and no one will ask which country you’re from. Every first Sunday of the month from October to March has free entrance. But even a free visit to the museum still needs to be booked online.

How to get to the Louvre

The Louvre is in the very center of Paris, on Rue Rivoli. The closest metro station is Palais-Royal/musee du Louvre, from which you can get into the museum.

Louvre operating hours

The Louvre is open every day but Tuesday. On Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the museum is open from 9 to 6, and on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 9 to 10. The museum is closed on church and state holidays, like May 1st, December 25th and January 1st.

How much time do you need in the Louvre?

The Louvre is 200,000 square kilometers. The museum is split into thematic zones. There are places for Egyptian, Roman, French, Ancient Greek, Islam and Western art. If you want to see all the pieces, you’ll need at least three days. But you can see the main pieces in 2 hours.
